30-year study: A healthy lifestyle gives us 10 years

It is already scientifically confirmed that a healthy lifestyle directly affects the length of life. In one of the longest experiments in this direction in years, namely studies , which lasted about 30 years, proved that our daily activities have an impact on the length of our lives.

The World Health Organization considers major risk factors that determine the development of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases.

The study compared the consumption of fruit, alcohol, cigarettes, different types of food, as well as the level of physical activity of nearly 17,000 people between the ages of 16 and 90 in the period 1977-1993. The influence of the various factors, as well as the level of mortality of the participants until 2008, was established. The analysis of the results and their systematization still took quite a bit of time, but in the end it turns out that, according to the research, dependence exists and it is not random at all.

It is no surprise that cigarettes have a detrimental effect on people’s health. Smokers are much more likely to live less than non-smokers (about 57 percent). However, this is invariably related to the different way of life of these people, and not only to their passion for tobacco products. Harmful food, lack of exercise and alcohol abuse are also among the top causes that affect the length of a person’s life and can be a serious factor in how old they will be live.

Taken separately, all factors are detrimental to health. And in cases where harmful habits are combined, the danger jumps significantly due to the interconnected factors. It has been estimated that good food and exercise not only improve the quality of life, but also add years to its length. After the release of the research results, it is no longer a secret why so many people prefer to live healthy.
