Why is vitamin E important for the brain?

Vitamin E is essential for brain health, but more than 90% of people fail to get enough of it through food!

The human body is made up of trillions of cells functioning simultaneously, to ensure that we take our next breath. Although the processes in the body are very complex, the way in which they are carried out is quite elementary.

To perform their functions properly, our cells need vitamins. Scientists believe that the body needs at least 13 different vitamins to be in good long-term health.

Maintaining the recommended daily intake of all 13 vitamins can be a real challenge, as some of them are not of such priority importance.

A recent study conducted by Oregon State University’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences found that almost everyone is deficient in vitamin E, except for people who make a conscious effort to reach the daily recommended doses.

At least 90% of men and 96% of women fail to get the required daily amount of vitamin E from food, according to a large-scale public survey. Although the research was conducted in the USA, it can be said with a high degree of probability that the situation in Bulgaria is not much different. Especially for people with a busy daily life who do not have time to choose the food they consume.

Vitamin E is crucial in the early development of the fetus and in this regard expectant mothers should take amounts above the daily recommended doses of it.

Research shows that vitamin E is extremely crucial during the first 1000 days of a baby’s life, contributing to the continuation of neural development that began in the fetal period. Vitamin E deficiency in this period of life of man, cannot be replaced by a subsequent increase in its quantities.

A study analyzing the effects of vitamin E on laboratory animals during their early development shows the ability of tocopherol to support the function of omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary for proper brain development.

The study authors conclude that adequate amounts of vitamin E are most critical during the 1,000-day period of human life that begins at conception.

Scientists recommend that adults take 15 mg with food. vitamin E daily.
Although foods containing tocopherol are not among the most liked, some of them are quite tasty. For example, sunflower seeds contain a small amount of fat, but they are rich in vitamin E.

You can also get tocopherol from pumpkin and sesame seeds, consuming less than half a cup a day.

Almonds are also a complete source of vitamin E, just 30 g of almonds contain 7.5 mg, that is, to get our necessary daily dose, we need 60 g of them. From the Swiss salad prepared according to the standard recipe and from the green mustard, one can also get 14-17% of the recommended daily dose.

Also, turnips, cabbage, hazelnuts, pine nuts, avocados, broccoli, parsley, papaya and olives are excellent healthy sources of vitamin E.

Wheat germ oil is considered to be the best food from which one can obtain vitamin E, just one tablespoon of it guarantees 100% of the recommended daily dose.
