Sex during menstruation – arguments “For” or “Against”

For most intimate couples, sex during a menstrual cycle is taboo. However, there are also their opponents – they believe that intimate contact during menstruation can be more sensual and more memorable.

Of course, this issue is strictly individual, and it is very difficult for a person to unequivocally say for or against.

Gynecologists agree with the statement that sex during this period will not cause any harm only on the condition that the woman’s reproductive system is in excellent health and she and her partner adhere to hygienic rules during intimate caresses.< /p>

In all other cases, there are certain risks, primarily related to the woman’s health.

Risk #1 – endometritis and development of other inflammatory processes

Endometritis is an inflammation of the lining of the uterus.

The disease is characterized by a rather complicated course.

Sex during menstruation puts women at risk, because during this period the lumen of the cervix expands and thus becomes a shortcut for the spread of pathogenic microorganisms, if they are present in the vagina.

Through the blood flow, they migrate into the uterine cavity, and the inflammatory process can worsen not only in the uterus, but also in the vagina.

The treatment is easy and does not present any difficulty, but it is still quite unpleasant and creates discomfort for the woman, and this disrupts all the pleasure she would get from intimate caresses with her partner.

Women should be aware that after sex, in the presence of such medical contraindications, a slight inflammation or infection of the external genital organs or the perianal area /which is not even always felt/ can progress into a complex inflammatory process already in the uterus itself.

Risk #2 – infectious diseases

There is an assumption that conception after sex during a menstrual cycle cannot take place, that is, a pregnancy can occur.

For this reason, many intimate couples are in a hurry to abandon the barrier method of contraception – a condom, forgetting that it is the one that protects the most from the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.

If such exist in the body of a man or a woman, intimate caresses without protective equipment during menstruation will lead to an unwanted exchange of pathogenic microflora.

Moreover, the blood is a kind of conductor for the pathogenic bacteria.

Risk #3 – unwanted pregnancy

Actually, conception during a menstrual cycle is unlikely, but not impossible.

The lowest risk of pregnancy exists on the 2nd 3rd day of menstruation, however, couples who like to enjoy their intimacy during this period postpone it for the 5th, 6th day, because as in the first days the bleeding is most profuse.

But ovulation /the most favorable moment for conception and is usually in the middle of a cycle/ can “early” and occur on the 6th 8th day. In addition, 2 ovulations are possible within one menstrual period.

Myths

Myth #1 – having sex during your cycle increases pain.

In fact, the opposite is true. First of all, most women report an increase in libido during this period. Secondly, the presence of blood in the vagina means that the intimate couple has no reason to fear dryness.

Myth #2 – having sex during menstruation affects the occurrence of ovulation and the length of the cycle.

The contraction of the uterine muscles during orgasm helps to reduce the duration of the cycle, because more thus, the already separated endometrium leaves the uterine cavity more quickly. re
