Baby acne
Baby acne is a disease condition of the skin of the newborn.
It can appear anywhere on the face, but it usually appears on the cheeks, nose and forehead.
The condition is common in babies, but it is temporary.
The best treatment for the baby is to do nothing.
What are the symptoms?
Baby acne is usually characterized by the appearance of small red bumps or pustules on the baby’s cheeks, nose and forehead.
In most cases it appears in the first 2-4 weeks after birth. Acne may appear worse when the child is crying or nervous.
Many babies develop small white bumps on their noses, chins or cheeks, called milia.
Consult your baby’s pediatrician if you notice a change in the appearance of his skin.
Acne usually resolves after about 3-4 months.
What are the causes?
The cause of acne in babies is not known.
But despite there is an assumption that baby acne appears due to clogged sebaceous glands due to hormonal changes in the baby’s body during the first months of his life.
Treatment of baby acne
Since the skin condition disappears after about a few months medical treatment is not recommended.
In some cases, however, it is possible for acne to persist for more than 6 months or even longer. If your baby’s acne is very persistent, his pediatrician may recommend a medicated cream or other treatment.
Do not try any over-the-counter ointments or medications before consulting your baby’s doctor, as some of these medications may be harmful to baby’s delicate skin.< /p>
But if your baby has acne, it is recommended:
• Keep your child’s face clean. Wash his face with warm water daily.
Also, to improve the condition of acne-affected skin, you can use a mild moisturizing facial soap several times a week, then rinse with warm water.
• Do not squeeze the affected skin and do not try to clean it, this will only irritate it or possibly cause an infection.
It is also absolutely contraindicated to squeeze, squeeze or pinch pimples formed as a result of acne.
Do not use strong topical acne skin treatments such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid or astringents.
• Avoid using oils and lotions on your baby’s skin.
• Sometimes it turns out that the soap you use is causing the acne. Therefore, you can stop using the soap for a while and see if your child’s skin condition improves.
Because sometimes mild soaps aren’t really that mild.
Instead of washing the baby with soap, dip a cotton pad in clean warm water and gently wipe his face.
Water and cotton will clean the skin without the help of chemicals that can cause irritation.
• Dry your baby’s face when he spits up or drools during feeding.
Constant moisture around the mouth can worsen or increase acne around the chin. That’s why it’s good to use a bib for the baby, so you’ll always have a dry towel available to dry his mouth.
