Hungry men prefer curvier women
Swedish scientists recently found that the appetite hormone ghrelin, which is secreted by the stomach, has the property of enhancing sexual attraction in mice.
Researchers conducted an experiment with rodents that were given this hormone. It should be remembered that ghrelin together with leptin are responsible for the correct energy balance of the body.
It is usually released in the stomach, but it was given to the mice with food. The aim of the scientists was to clarify to what extent the feeling of hunger enhances sexual desire.
After the rodents received ghrelin, they almost immediately began looking for a mate. And the inhibitor of this hormone, suppressing its activity, on the contrary, lowered the sexual desire.
The researchers concluded that ghrelin affects the mechanism responsible for the feeling of reward.
Previously, this feeling was thought to be triggered by food, alcohol and drugs. Now sex has also entered this list.
Scientists do not have enough data to confirm with certainty that ghrelin also plays such a role in the human body.
That is why this is yet to be clarified in the studies planned to be carried out.
But it is possible that in the future, ghrelin inhibitors will be used to treat sexual disorders such as nymphomania.
There are currently no medications designed specifically to treat these disorders.
By the way, a few hours of sleep deprivation increase the levels of ghrelin in the blood, as a result of which a person feels hungry during the day and can seriously overeat.
And the feeling of hunger, as it has already become known, affects sexual desire.
Another experiment was conducted earlier, which found that the feeling of hunger affects the sexual preferences of men.
Participants in the experiment were offered to choose a partner for one evening.
Men who felt hungry were found to prefer rounder data.
At the same time, the stronger the hunger, the more voluptuous women they preferred.
According to psychologists, this choice was made on a subconscious level.
The hungry man is looking for a mate who can compensate for his lack of nutrients.
When he has fed, the choice of the same male can differ significantly.
It should be noted that in July 2014, the results of a study by scientists from the University of Cambridge, Great Britain, came out, the purpose of which was to study the brain functions of people with compulsive sexual habits /that is, with compulsive disorder/ and those who who liked to watch porn.
British researchers invited 20 men with compulsive sexual behavior to participate in the experiment and another 20 without any diagnosis. In other words, the men from the first group often watched porn and from early childhood.
During the experiment, all participants watched short videos with scenes of sexual and sports content.
During this time, using the method of magnetic resonance imaging, in which the level of oxygen in the blood is scanned, the scientists conducted a study of participants from the brain of the participants of the experiment.
The results of the experiment showed that in volunteers with signs of sexually compulsive behavior, brain activity was very similar to that of drug addiction, with scenes with sexual content provoking even greater brain activity.
At the same time, the brains of the younger volunteers exhibited greater activity than those of the older ones.
