Marijuana slows brain degeneration and curbs dementia

New scientific research continues to reveal the unique properties of cannabinoids to protect brain functions, which in turn help prevent the aging process and even counteract the damaging effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and cognitive abnormalities.

The human brain consists of an extensive network of receptors that modulate the function of the nervous system only when activated by the appropriate cannabinoid compounds, many of which are found in abundance in the marijuana plant.

One of the most recent scientific discoveries regarding cannabinoids has to do with their ability to act as antioxidants in the brain.

German scientists have found that the endocannabinoid system is able to not only clean out damaged brain neurons but also stimulate the growth of new ones – a concept that defies long-held conventional thinking about how the brain works .

This is also confirmed by the latest scientific research published in the authoritative American journal “Neurology”, which found that immediately after the stroke, the place of dead neurons is replaced by new stem cells cells that, with the help of neurotransmitters, specialize into neurons.

Cannabinoids strengthen mitochondriae in the brain, which provide energy and support the proper functioning of neurons.

Published in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, these findings shed new light on how the natural cannabinoids in marijuana have the ability to literally shut down inflammatory processes in the brain that cause cognitive decline, neurodegeneration and brain failure .

By providing brain receptors that modulate the nervous system with cannabinoids, patients may be able to overcome brain diseases such as Alzheimer, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and not we also mention premature aging of the brain and all clinical conditions for which modern science has not been able to find effective solutions.

An Ohio State University professor of neurology, immunology and genetics who helped with the research says he has been trying for 25 years to find a drug that can reduce brain inflammation and restore cognitive function in rats.

And cannabinoids are the first and only class of drugs that have ever been effective.

The professor also believes that the perception of marijuana as a healing agent is changing and in the future people will not be so cautious about its use.

Cannabinoids in marijuana help restore normal cellular functions in the body.

Researchers first discovered the existence of cannabinoid receptor systems in the rat brain in 1988.

And they gradually found out how it works and how cannabinoids can help prevent prevent and even reverse all kinds of chronic diseases that are result from the lack of these important compounds.

Today, scientific research on marijuana is more extensive than ever, and this neglected plant due to social stigma is finally receiving the scientific recognition it deserves as a medical “superfood”.
