The most common types of cancer

Cancer can affect men and women equally, but some cancers are more likely to occur in men.

According to the latest reports from the American Cancer Society, it appears that the insidious disease claimed more than 310,000 human lives in 2014 .

A little further down, we’ll introduce you to the most common cancers among men and a few ways you can increase your chances of protecting yourself from them before it’s too late.

1. Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer was the leading cause of deaths in the US in 2014.

In the US alone, people suffering from prostate cancer are close to 1,000,000 people.

African-American men have the highest risk of this type of cancer.

To protect themselves from it, it is good for them not to smoke, to eat healthy and to move, which will reduce the fat content in their bodies and make them physically healthy.

2. Lung Cancer

Although prostate cancer is more common in men, lung cancer is much more deadly and usually carriers die much earlier quickly.

In 2014 over 120,000 people have been diagnosed with this type of cancer. Nearly 90,000 of them died that same year.

The best ways to prevent the risk of catching the incurable disease are related to giving up tobacco, even passive smoking!

About 80% of deaths from this type of cancer are related to smoking.

Also, exposure to radon gas is deadly. It is believed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in people after smoking.

3. Colon cancer

More than 75,000 people were diagnosed with this type of cancer in 2014.

Although colon cancer affects all ethnicities at any age, men around the age of 50 are most vulnerable to it.

A healthy lifestyle would protect you from this disease, but if you smoke, consume excessive amounts of alcohol, lead a sedentary lifestyle without sports you are potentially vulnerable to this disease!

4. Skin cancer

This type of cancer claims about 6,000 victims every year. In the US, it is diagnosed as the deadliest type of cancer known to mankind, although scientists are still debating.

To protect yourself from this disease, it is recommended to use sunscreen cream when you go to the beach and stay away from ultraviolet lamps.

It is also good not to bask in the sun for a long time, wear glasses and long-sleeved clothes. Sunbeds are extremely harmful to human skin and therefore better avoided if you want to reduce the risk of catching the insidious disease.

5. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma

About 40,000 people were diagnosed with this disease in 2014. This type of cancer starts in the immune system.

It is thought to be more common in men with HIV or AIDS due to their weakened immune systems.

However, non-Hodgkin lymphoma often occurs without any risk factors.

Men should practice safe sex to reduce the risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

A healthy lifestyle can protect you from the appearance of this unpleasant guest.

Maintain a healthy weight, eat normally, exercise and try to eliminate stress from your daily life!
