Brazilian /American/ walnuts are the fruits of the large, beautiful Bertoletia tree, which reaches a height of up to 50 meters, and the diameter of its trunk is 1.5-2 meters and lives up to 1000 years. Its name is related to the name of Claude Louis Beltole.

Its fruits are oval and similar in appearance to a ripe coconut. And they can reach a weight of up to 2 kilograms. In taste, they can be compared to cedar or hazelnuts, but it is more promiscuous.

The countries of Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, the eastern parts of Peru, Bolivia, Colombia are considered to be the homeland of the Brazil nut. It can be found near the Amazon, Rio Negro and Orinoco rivers.

Brazilian walnut – useful properties

The American walnut is recognized as the food with the highest content of selenium, and this trace element slows down and stops the growth of malignant formations.

Brazil nut can be harmful to health, but only in cases of overeating. Therefore, adults can eat 2 such nuts a day, and children can eat one if they are given daily.

And if a person consumes for the first time, it is not advisable to consume more than 5 at a time. The reason for this is that selenium, when it accumulates in the body, has a negative effect.

Another unfavorable property, or rather a contraindication – this is the possible development of an allergy, manifested as an unusual and seemingly causeless itching, redness, burning.

For some people, these nuts are contraindicated, as there is an individual intolerance to them. It is not desirable to consume, or at least to limit it to the maximum, if he has set himself the goal of getting rid of extra pounds.

Although they are obviously beneficial, these nuts should not be abused. They are harmful in large quantities due to the content of radium and barium /radioactive substances /, although in small quantities, Brazil nuts should be consumed in moderation.
